NCA - Northumbria Cycling Academy

We develop confident, skillful, and resilient cyclists across cyclocross and cross-country MTB. Riders from clubs across the region come together for off-road cycling training with us midweek, then race for their home clubs on weekends. Our model is simple and effective: skills-first coaching, a supportive team culture, and a clear pathway from local racing to national and European events, making us a regional hub for youth cycling.

Who we are

Northumbria Cycling Academy is a British Cycling–affiliated regional hub for youth cycling that welcomes riders from any North East club. This central place allows youth and junior riders to engage in off-road cycling training, including Criss country MTB and Cyclocross, alongside peers of the same age and ability. The result is better group dynamics, increased motivation, and faster progress—especially beneficial for riders whose home clubs may only have a handful of juniors.

Youth focus: U14, U16, U18 (U21 & Seniors subject to space)

A skills-first coaching approach led by experienced coaches

An inclusive, encouraging, and performance-minded culture

What we offer (season by season)

Cyclocross (September–January) focuses on handling techniques essential for off-road cycling training, including navigating grass and mud, mastering starts, tackling off-cambers, overcoming barriers, and executing remounts. Participants will develop race craft, pacing, and confidence under pressure, while also managing endurance and intensity effectively.

Cross-Country Mountain Bike (February–July) emphasizes key technical skills such as climbing and descending, making line choices, and cornering. These trail sessions build towards XC race intensity, incorporating pacing, passing strategies, lap consistency, and thorough race preparation. As a regional hub for youth cycling, we prioritize skills-first coaching to ensure that young cyclists excel in both disciplines.
